As part of a remodeling initiative, Phoenix Children’s Hospital chose to refurbish the outside of its parking garage with custom exterior decorative paneling. To bring the vision to life, KorFab was selected to fabricate the custom paneling solution, enabling the general contractor, DPR, and the installer, True Metal Solutions, to complete the installation on time, on spec, and on budget. Today, the decorative paneling adds character and warmth, making Phoenix Children’s Hospital look more inviting to children and families.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital was struggling to find paneling solutions that met specific budget, safety, and quality criteria. They wanted a design that looked more inviting and less institutional than typical healthcare environments. The panels needed to fit the existing parking garage structure, requiring a fully custom design. To avoid long-term maintenance, the hospital sought a long-lasting solution that would remain maintenance-free for decades.
To fit the curvature of the parking garage, each of the 400+ panels needed to be a slightly different size, with unique mounting components. Because the installation required drilling into the parking structure, engineering requirements dictated that the panels be cut from aluminum, and safety concerns meant that edges needed to be smooth enough to grab without injury. From startup to completion, the entire project took around four to five weeks. Feedback from all parties was positive: DPR and True Metal Solutions praised the seamless production process, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital received a unique, attractive decorative paneling solution that perfectly met their goals — and was left with more budget to spend on other needs. KorFab shipped around 100 panels per week, producing them in the order they were to be installed, with labeling to help simplify and speed up the general contractor’s work. In the rare event that a panel was damaged during installation, the KorFab team quickly fabricated and shipped a replacement panel the same day to keep the project on schedule.
